We added a couple of judges this year. The judging team found the task of choosing the best gardens in the complex rewarding but very, very challenging. There were so many wonderful gardens, from large ones belonging to end units to attractive diminutive displays. The top three placed so close, we almost had a three-way tie. Even the margin between the honorable mentions and the top three was slim.

There are many beautiful gardens not mentioned below that arguably deserve an honorable mention. It was like splitting hairs for the judges, but we did the best we could to distinguish them based on many criteria. Evaluation took place during the first two weeks of June. Undoubtedly, we have some gardens in Gwynedd Pointe that would have placed differently later in the summer, depending on the bloom time of their predominant flowers. So as you stroll around the development, look at all the gardens, not just those on this list. Your efforts will be visually rewarding.

1st Prize - $100 Rhoads Garden Gift Certificate
805 Evergreen Court
Honorable Mention last year. Everything is in the right spot. Two iron trellises with clematis planted last year making beautiful showing this year. Symmetry of non-plant material beautifully offset by imbalance of plant material.


2nd Prize - $50 Rhoads Garden Gift Certificate
6500 Rolling Hill
Color, color, everywhere! Third time in the Top 3!

3rd Prize - $25 Rhoads Garden Gift Certificate
5905 Constitution
View this one from the rear, from Rolling Hill. There is a lot of structure with the pergola, yet the plantings are lovely and elegant. Talk about a garden as an outdoor room!

Honorable Mention (in no particular order) - $10 Rhoads Garden Gift Certificates:

6105 Rolling Hill
Earned an honorable mention last year, was a judge’s favorite this year. If judging took place a little later in the season when the garden is in full bloom, could have been the winner.

6400 Rolling Hill
Nice color coordination of plant and non-plant material. Postage stamp-sized garden, yet really works, like a small still-life painting.

1505 Liberty Court
Best rock garden in Gwynedd Pointe. Bench is a nice place to sit and gaze.

1304 Kenwood
Nice orderly garden along a row of standout gardens.

500 Evergreen
The huge alliums were in bloom during the first week of judging, and really made the garden blossom.

3503 North Carriage
1st last year, 2nd the year before, and honorable mention the first contest year. Different look every year. Love the ornamental ball as focal point. Deserves emeritus status.

3404 South Carriage
Second place last year, and there will surely be those who believe it should be in the Top 3 again this year. Painterly execution of colors.

2204 Harvard
A 1st, 2nd and HM in the past. Deserves lifetime achievement award. (We might have to start a Hall of Fame!)

2905 Harvard
3rd prize last year, a real contender this year.

2501 Grist Mill
Third time HM, nice in front and around rear deck facing Bell Run.
